New River Fly Fishing is run by veteran fishing guide Mike Smith, who has over 20 years of experience guiding on the New. Mike is also the author of Fishing the New River Valley: An Angler's Guide published by the University of Virginia Press and a product development specialist for Flymen Fishing Company.
The New is without a doubt a world-class bronzeback fishery. Our fishing techniques and presentations may change throughout the season as needed to target trophy specimens, but our general fishing window for smallmouth bass is April through October. Walleye and muskie are pursued from November through March.

For battling these bruisers, we recommend 9'-5/6 wt. rods with a 9' tapered leader (3x). These trips are wade fishing only from September through June.
